In partnership with a wide range of companies representing the sector, Mobinov has decided to start the development of a project focused on building a Decarbonization Roadmap for the Portuguese Automotive Industry, a project/investment supported by the PRR – Recovery and Resilience Plan, and by the Next Generation EU European Funds.
Mobinov announced the launch of an ambitious project aimed at creating a strategic decarbonization roadmap for the automotive sector in Portugal. With the participation of 20 companies representing the different subsectors of the Portuguese automotive industry, this initiative aims to promote the transition to a more sustainable future and reduce the environmental impact of operations in the sector.
The automotive sector plays a crucial role in the Portuguese economy, being responsible for the generation of a large number of jobs and contributing substantially to the national GDP and the annual volume of exports. The initiative led by Mobinov seeks, therefore, to further strengthen these economic pillars, while promoting the creation of a sector more adapted to future climate challenges.
With global warming and climate change becoming increasingly urgent in the economies of different countries, the automotive sector faces significant challenges. The transition to a low-carbon economy is essential to mitigate the risks and ensure the long-term sustainability of the sector. The threats posed by climate change range from pressure for stricter regulations on carbon emissions to the growing consumer preference for shared mobility solutions with low carbon footprints.
However, Mobinov recognizes the importance of embracing these challenges as opportunities to innovate and create a more resilient and competitive automotive sector. The proactive incorporation of environmental risks will allow the capitalization of the multiple emerging opportunities. The search for energy efficiency, the adoption of clean technologies, the investment in renewable energy production systems and the promotion of the circular economy will be essential to build a more prepared automotive sector to face the uncertainties of the future.
With the joining of forces of the 20 participating companies, Mobinov reinforces its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the automotive sector. The project aims to establish ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions and, simultaneously, to promote the adoption of sustainable practices throughout the value chain. The expectation is that the Roadmap can be presented in December of this year and that, from 2024, the sector will strengthen its action, towards the pursuit of carbon neutrality.
The decarbonization roadmap for the Portuguese automotive sector led by Mobinov represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future for Portugal and demonstrates the fundamental role that the automotive industry plays in building a low-carbon economy.
